Fire Prep

I'm sure you've all heard about the Wallow Fire burning outside of Alpine. It's burning one of my cousin-in-law's ranches. My heart is aching for everyone who is suffering right now. About a month ago, JD and I discussed that we needed an emergency evacuation kit in our home. I bought a 5 gallon tupperware, with the intentions of filling it up with supplies right away. It still sits empty in my guest bedroom. I heard today that there are 8, yes EIGHT fires burning across the state right now. It is time to get my butt in gear and get this kit done.  I need some suggestions on what I should put in the kit. I have bottled water as well as some gallons of water for food and bathing use. I also have a first aid kit, spare clothes, and spare puppy food. Our important papers box will sit right on top of the tub so it is included as well. Any other suggestions?

  1. A guy in my ward just talked about emergency preparedness last week. He had a really good idea. Scan your important documents to your computer and then put them on a zip drive. That way it's less to carry and less likely to get damaged.

  2. Thats a great idea Ashley! I need to add that.
Also flashlights & extra batteries. Candles & waterproof matches. emergency heat blankets. ponchos. MREs and other condensed food. Can Opener. Pocket knife. Utensils. femine products(just incase). birthcontrol. extra phone chargers or walkie talkies. small radio & extra batteries. trashbags.Compass. Map. hairties & clips. (and you might think about puting each of your stuff in backpacks instead, with a trashbag to water proof the inside.. just so they're easy to grab and carry and travel with?)
